H2Heat Quarterly Newsletter

Greetings from the H2Heat team! As we stride forward into the month of July, let's recap some of the events that we attended.

FEDEPORT Session: Hydrogen Companies at Port of Las Palmas

The Project Manager, Ana Marcos, of H2Heat, took part in an engaging session hosted by FEDEPORT in collaboration with CMC. The event was centered around hydrogen transportation activities, specifically targeting bunkering companies at the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

During the session, the Project Manager, Ana, had the opportunity to connect with various companies involved in the bunkering industry. The gathering served as a platform to discuss advancements in hydrogen transport and how these companies can contribute to a more sustainable future.

These collaborative efforts are important for driving forward the hydrogen industry in the region and beyond.

Exploring the Knowledge and Innovation Community on Water, Marine, and Maritime

Seas, oceans, and inland waters are more than just scenic views and recreational spots. They hold the key to many critical aspects of our world, from ecosystems to climate dynamics, and from food provision to energy efficiency. Recognising the importance of these natural resources, the European Parliament is taking a proactive stance by organising workshops to promote knowledge and innovation in the water, marine, and maritime sectors.

One of the primary focuses of the workshops was to tackle significant challenges in the water sector. These include water scarcity, quality, and the need for sustainable fishing, as well as water and wastewater treatment. Discussions touched on the management of marine and freshwater ecosystems, the use of critical raw materials, and the advancement of a circular economy.

It’s evident that collaboration across various sectors is essential to address these challenges effectively. This calls for an innovative public-private approach and cross-sector cooperation.

The workshops provided policymakers with essential insights for establishing the Water KIC and aligning its goals with EU climate objectives. By reinforcing networks of active stakeholders, the initiative seeks to contribute to ongoing Commission work and shape the future of water and marine innovation.

H2Heat for Researchers

Are you a researcher interested in hydrogen, renewable energy, or healthcare? H2Heat offers comprehensive insights into these industries, equipping researchers with the knowledge needed to navigate the full supply chain. Green hydrogen stands as a vital component in the global effort to combat climate change and achieve sustainable energy systems.

The Canary Islands serve as a prime example of an isolated energy system within the EU, highlighting challenges such as dependence on external energy sources and vulnerability. H2HEAT aims to address these challenges, particularly in heating, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the Canaries' energy economy. Scaling hydrogen usage will necessitate leveraging existing gas networks, a crucial consideration for regions like the Canary Islands.
